The Fall

While there are many “falls” I could write about, this one is actually the title of a little video I shot of my daughter back in 2000. Now before you click away and say, “jeez, will these blogging guys ever stop force-feeding us their home movies,” I encourage you to check it out. I actually submitted it to America’s Funniest Home Videos tonight, so you may as well get a look before we are all big time and don’t have the time to share with you any more.

Welcome to Bloggin Old School!

Hey kids!

Welcome to my latest blogging attempt. First, we’ll start with a simple introduction. I am Chris Beck, aka thirddaydev, a Ruby on Rails programmer and certifiable computer geek living in the Charlotte, NC area. I have been programming for the web since 1995, and am thankful that I get to spend all day doing something for money that I used to do for free back in the day. Don’t tell my boss though - I am getting ready to hit him up for a raise ;-)

Earlier tonight, I got a wild hair and drug my old Apple G3 out of the garage and started it up. Man, there was a lot of great old stuff on there! It brought me back to the days when I was in college, the Internet was referred to as the Information Super Highway (God, I hate that phrase), and I seemed to have a lot of opinions to share. Of course, there were no cool blogging engines like Word Press or Joomla! back in the day, so I used to use HotMeTL or Dreamweaver (pre-1.0 beta) or Adobe Go Live to put together my sites.

Over the years, my passion for sharing waned, and before blogging became the next big thing, I had pretty much quit. I was now working the biz; creating sites for others. I didn’t have time to get in touch with the left-side of my brain anymore. Or at least, that’s what I told myself.
